Fast food giants Burger King announced the US launch of the ‘healthier’ version of its Tendergrill Chicken Sandwich earlier this month, claiming it has less calories, fat and salt than its predecessor. But is it really that healthy?
Burger King marketing chiefs have proudly proclaimed that the chicken burger only has 470 calories, without fries or anything else on the side. Whilst this is lower than a lot of fast food products, it’s still quite a large chunk of daily calorie intake for a sole burger.
Looking on the brighter side, Burger King are making an effort to improve the quality of their food. The new chicken sandwich comes with a whole grain ciabatta bun, and has less fat and salt than other BK options.
This said, you could make your own at home or go to a local sandwich shop for a much healthier chicken sandwich, and it would probably be cheaper.
Starting next month, Subway are planning to change the way they arrange the cheese on their sandwiches in stores worldwide. They hilariously describe this as a change in ‘cheese tessellation’, prompted by a campaign from die-hard sandwich fans in Australia and New Zealand.
For those not normal people familiar with this particular sandwich debate, the problem is that the cheese triangles in Subway sandwiches is currently overlapped instead of being (snigger) ‘appropriately tessellated’. This causes uneven cheesy distribution for the scoffer – a nightmare indeed.
Changes in cheese placement policy have now been implemented in Canada and Australia, possibly to be introduced throughout the rest of the world.
Note: this isn’t a joke, The Independent ran a story on it.
